As we ride the tail end of the Omicron wave into late winter, we proceed into spring with the highest communal Covid immunity to date. Chances are good that we will enjoy a respite from the pandemic madness for a stretch of time. Who knows what late summer or fall will bring as immunity diminishes? But from Lent to Pentecost, the road is looking mighty fine.
I have been imploring my clients to get ready for a robust re-gathering this spring! People are ready. Health conditions are about to be ready. And the churches who offer compelling invitations to excellent live events this spring will likely prosper.
For everything there is a season. For so long, maybe too long, the season has been health crisis mitigation. Soon, very soon, that season will end. No bell will go off to remind us. But the season of re-gathering is upon us.
A good re-gathering will involve more than live worship services. By now, a significant number of serious disciples have settled into the rhythm of digital connection on Sunday mornings. That is working well for them. But these same folks do still come out of their houses. They do crave community. They are candidates for new life groups. They are often willing and eager to volunteer for good ministry projects. Give them opportunity to reconnect! Invite them personally. Organize for more than random and spotty invitation.
Re-gathering will require lots of invitation. It is time to
give our folks easy-invitation opportunities. Such opportunities mean that the event is something that both religious and non-religious persons would likely enjoy. It means that I can imagine my friend or neighbor having a good time. It is likely not a worship-centered event.
It is about to be springtime... a spring time we will remember for a long
time!! We had better get to making plans!
